Chapter 4

I woke up in a hospital bed. Freaked out. They won't let me see you yet. They won't tell me how you are. The last thing I heard is that you are in critical condition and to prepare for the worst.

And how do you prepare a person for something like that?

They revised my wounds, and I received an infusion. My whole body was in pain. It was like a truck had run over me. When they finally allowed me to get up, I left the room. Your entire family was in the corridor. They had no information either. No news whatsoever. They said they were doing various examinations.

The hours were passing. Doctors were coming in and out of your room… I was a few steps away, and it felt like kilometers.

Questions from all sides. Everyone wanted to know what happened. How we fell into the river.

I told them briefly, at least as much as I could remember at that point.

I told them you were supposed to take me home and halfway through you changed your mind…

I told them that we were arguing, but not why…

I told them you didn't want to take me home and kept driving….

And I told them I don't remember how you lost control. I don't remember how we ran off the road.

Your girlfriend came too. What should I say to her? The truth, as if your situation is not enough for her. Or to hide, so as not to finish it.

She asked me what we were doing together. If something happened between us… She didn't care about me and how I felt. But I don't blame her.

But no, I couldn't tell her that you begged me to give you a chance.

I couldn't tell her that you were telling me how much you love me.

I couldn't tell her that you were angry that I was with someone else at the disco.

Nor that you told me how I was supposedly only yours.

I didn't dare to do it.

I told her that you just offered to drive me home, then we started arguing, and you kept driving…

I said, “Don't worry, he loves you”.

I turned my back and went for some fresh air.

At that moment, the doctor came out and headed toward us. We were all waiting…

— “Mateo's family?”

— “Yes, we are his family… How is he?”

— “We did everything in our hands.”

The words cut me off… I was speechless. I started losing consciousness. I was afraid to hear what he had to say next…

— “Unfortunately, Mateo is in a coma. We don't know how long it will be, if and when he will wake up… we just have to wait and hope and pray for his speedy recovery. ”

The doctor continued to explain what had led to this… But I failed to hear what else he was saying… I was unable to maintain focus. Mateo is in a coma. He can stay like that for the rest of his life, he can wake up and not remember anything, he can not even wake up…

Our long-standing… “situationship”, will it end here?

Is this how it will end?

Is this how we will separate?

Is this our end?

Is this it?

Disclaimer:

The stories are seasoned with a lot of drama, and the characters are fictional because the drama starts when logic ends. ☺
